Photo Of The Month

I received some fabulous pictures again for this issue's Photo of the Month, so thanks to everyone who submitted an entry.  However my winner this month comes from Alastair Jenkin taken in April 16 during a leg of the 2015/16 Joint Services Transglobe Expedition. Taken by Alastair he explains: "this photo shows the other members of Red Watch of the Challenge 72 Adventure of Hornet, Mandy Castle on the helm, with Amy Hill and Matt Sweeting. It was taken at 2330 on 22 April off the east coast of Brazil. The full force of a storm, which had been overhauling us from the south for about 6 hours, heralded by illuminations of sheet and forked lightning, pretty much turning night into day, struck at about 2315. This frame, captured from video, shows the value that ocean sailing can deliver to service men and women: relentless routine, teamwork and camaraderie, interspersed with brief moments which can be both exhilarating and terrifying."  Great picture and great story Alastair.

If you have a great boating picture that you'd like to submit for Photo of the Month; whether power or sail; windsurfing, personal watercraft or inland; whatever your preference, please send it in and one lucky image will be chosen as Picture of the month and will take pride of place as the RYA Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter page cover images for the month.  Send your pictures and a short caption about the photo to editor.inbrief@rya.org.uk
